Construction protocol: RNA isolation was carried out using the RNeasy mini-kit (Qiagen) following manufacturers protocol. Residual DNA was removed using the DNA-free DNase kit (Ambion) following manufacturers protocol. For RNA-seq library generation, the Ovation complete Prokaryotic RNA-Seq DR multiplex kit (Nugen) was used. The library was generated following the manufacturers protocol and fragment sizes from sonication during library generation was confirmed using a bioanalyzer (Agilent Technologies). Libraries were sequenced by VCU nucleic acid sequencing core using Miseq Illumina sequencing.
